We have submitted plans for a major new development close to Cornbrook Metrolink station.
The site occupies a highly prominent location alongside the Bridgewater Way, a major arterial road running south west from Manchester City Centre towards Old Trafford and is a 5 minute walk from the Cornbrook Interchange Metrolink.
The scheme looks to provide 363 residential units ranging from one and two bed apartments as well as two and three bed townhouses and duplexes. Private amenity space is provided in the form of raised courtyards and a resident’s gym.
The overall mass of the development has been broken down in to three elements which address the scale of the context and the spaces created within the proposal. Two larger ‘city blocks’ confront the hard edge of the site and contain the taller elements offering a gateway to the scheme.
The intermediate space within the scheme is occupied by ‘townhouse blocks’ which offer a more pedestrian townscape scale creating a more intimate environment. The central avenue is activated by front doors and ground floor accommodation.
Finally, to the rear of the site is a landmark building which anchors the central avenue route, drawing movement through and creating a destination point. The blocks are defined not only by scale but also subtle material differences and elevational treatment.
The use of a podium over ground floor parking between the blocks and beyond the central avenue provides the opportunity for raised landscaped terraces. These will provide private amenity to all residents.
A shared surface space is proposed along the central avenue which includes parking areas as well as hard and soft landscaping.
