WORRALL STREET

The brief was to develop a residential apartment scheme with a mix of unit types, ranging from Town Houses, 1 Bed to Three bed Apartments and to enhance the Dyer Street Road that splits the site. Moreover how the scheme can embody key policies whilst focusing on how to make the scheme as a whole a home for residents, that goes beyond the physical aspects of a house and integrates the ‘idea’ of place and home.

The site is located within an area of emerging developments. It is bordered by Worrall Street to the South East and potential residential developments to the other three sides. Strong links to the centre are made by footpaths that cross the nearby River Irwell.  Worrall Street offers a number of great design opportunities with its location near the City Centre, River Irwell and its historical context. We aim to bring out the best the site has to offer and emphasise a community feel throughout the scheme from a ‘mews’ street and chimney BBQ’s to contextually chosen materials and detailing.

One of the key aspects to the site and development of the scheme is the continuation of Dyer Street. At the moment Dyer Street is a dead end that abuts the north boundary of the site. The intention is to continue Dyer Street through our site to link in to Worrall Street, creating a Mews type road that runs between our two blocks. By continuing this rhythm and avoiding a potentially awkward dead end we aim to create a totally pedestrian ‘Mews’ Street that divides our scheme in to two blocks.
